Working on Christmas Eve
Companies have been advised to allow their employees flexible working hours on Christmas Eve because offices that do open all day would be a complete waste of time and money. Closing offices over Christmas would also have a significant environmental impact.

With around three quarters of employees planning to take the day off, it has been suggested that bosses should let those staff that could remain productive to work flexibly, whether from home or a business centre nearby rather than commuting to work in an almost empty office.

Many of the businesses that will be open will probably close at lunchtime, and many of those working will arrive late or leave early.

Most of the people questioned in a survey of about 6,000 workers from the UK, United States and Germany said that they would not have to work on Christmas Eve.

Some employers have decided that it not worth their while to open up for one day after a weekend, only to close again for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, giving their workers a well deserved break.
