  • Acting as an advocate and champion for sustainability throughout South East England

  • Tackling key obstacles and barriers to sustainable development.

  • Members of SFG are selected for their technical expertise and include representatives from GOSE, SEEDA and the Regional Assembly, as well as stakeholders including environmental and voluntary groups, the health and business sector and a local authority representative. SFG Masterclass - Helping you Deliver NI 185 & 186 - 11

    December 08
On 11 December the Sustainable Futures Group South East (The Region's Champion Body for Sustainable Development) held a masterclass on strategic leadership on sustainability at a local level. Jonathon Porritt said the "masterclass has been a great way of sharing ideas and enabling progress. Success is clearly about buy-in at the top. I heard many encouraging and positive examples, but each Local Authority across the South East needs to stick its neck out and be a leader, or we all lose out as global citizens."

    Presentations were given by:

Jonathon Porritt, Director of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission
    Andy Walford, Audit Commission
Thurstan Crockett, Brighton and Hove Council
    Mike Bridgeman, Hampshire County Council
    Chris Cousins, Oxfordshire County Council
Joe Baker, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
Trevor Watson, Lewes District Council; and
    Mary Anderson, CAG Consultants.
