SPINVOX EXPANDS ACROSS LATIN AMERICA WITH TELEFONICA

Landmark contract makes automatic speech-to-text conversion service available in 13 countries.

SpinVox, the global leader in voice to content messaging, announced today that the company’s speech-to-text conversion service is being deployed as a network service through an additional 12 countries in Telefónica’s mobile operations across Latin America. Spinvox service will be available to all Telefónica’s mobile customers in the region.

Argentina; Colombia; Ecuador; El Salvador; Guatemala; Mexico; Nicaragua; Panama; Peru; Uruguay and Venezuela will offer the service as will Vivo, Telefónica’s joint venture with Portugal Telecom in Brazil.

The agreement builds on the October 2008 announcement from SpinVox and Telefónica’s Movistar Chile of the launch of the first speech-to-text service in Latin America.

SpinVox is the only speech to text service in the world available in six languages - Spanish, English, French, German, Portuguese and Italian. SpinVox has configured its Voice Message Conversion SystemTM (VMCS) to convert the local variants of Spanish and Portuguese spoken in each country in Latin America.

SpinVox co-founder and CEO, Christina Domecq describes the contract as a landmark deal that demonstrates the sort of Tier 1 Carrier-grade scalability that only SpinVox can provide. “This has already established the company as the market leader on five continents, creating a new category that enables Carriers to turn everyday speech into billable revenue to deliver an immediate and positive ARPU impact,” she adds.

Luis Miguel Gilperez, Director, Mobile Business at Telefónica Latinoamérica, says: "Providing the best customer experience is a key objective of everything we do. That is highlighted today with the announcement of our partnership with SpinVox. Our customers will be able to receive via SMS all their voicemail messages, and, from the callers’ point of view, they will leave messages with the security that they will be delivered in a few minutes directly to the recipient as a text."

Domecq adds: "We’re changing the way we all communicate, do business and keep in contact with our social networks: using one simple and efficient messaging tool – SpinVox."
