Yell let their people do the walking | 18/11/08 Reading-based Yell, publisher of the Yellow Pages, has announced plans to slash 1,300 jobs in 2009. In a bid to make £100m-worth of savings before March 2010, the Berkshire employer is set to see 350 redundancies out of its 3,860 UK workforce. Yell has two main Berkshire sites, in Reading and Slough, and both are set to be hit by the proposals. more
Small Business Survival Package | 25/10/08 FSB Proposal for a Small Business Survival Package Small businesses face unprecedented problems during this economic downturn in accessing affordable finance, winning healthy contracts and from aggressive late payment policies from big businesses. Figures from the OECD state 40 per cent to 50 per cent of small businesses fold within the first three to four years. The FSB pins this to the lack of cash flow which has a devastating impact on the job market. more
Government help small businesses | 21/10/08 Skills secretary John Denham has announced that government departments and agencies have been instructed to pay any bills for work done by small businesses within 10 days. The idea is that this will help with much needed cash flow for these companies and the move has been welcomed by the Federation of Small Businesses as a step in the right direction. more
